Group Focus

The skin is one of the largest organs of body, which makes it a great candidate for drug delivery. However, the skin possesses exceptional barrier properties hindering almost every attempt for transdermal or dermal passage of compounds. For this purpose, the Laboratory of dermal and transdermal drug delivery focuses on various ways for the enhancement of drug application via the skin. One such way is the development of various types of nanoparticulate formulations and testing their effect on the drug’s skin permeation behaviour. The next focus in put on the development, characterization and use of novel compounds acting as permeation or penetration enhancers for skin delivery. Another field of interest is to study skin barrier at the molecular level by various biophysical techniques. This also involves the skin pathophysiology and diseases related to impaired skin barrier (psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, skin cancer, and others).
